Value of Water Index 2026: Water Reliability a Top Priority for Americans
The Value of Water Campaign has released its 2026 Value of Water Index, and the results are clear: Americans see water as a top national priority. According to the survey, 92% of voters identify reliable water access as a very or extremely important issue, a level of concern that now statistically matches cost‑of‑living pressures.
Support for investment is equally strong. 81% of voters back continued federal water infrastructure funding, and more than two‑thirds say they would view an elected official more favorably for championing additional investment. At the same time, concerns about affordability are rising: 85% of voters say the cost of water services is an important issue, and more than a quarter report their water is already unaffordable, the highest level recorded in over a decade.
These findings reinforce the need to act now to secure a reliable, resilient water future for every community. That’s why United for Infrastructure is partnering with the Value of Water Campaign to elevate the voices of leaders who know that investing in water is investing in economic growth, public health, and the quality of life in every community.
